Hi everyone,
I know it’s a very frustrating time being so close to starting back up and having the rug pulled out from under us but my perspective on this lock down is much different than the first. The main reason for this was seeing how quickly the kids got straight back into the flow of things and how eager they were to listen, work and learn. The amount of work we were able to accomplish in our 4 40-minute sessions should be very inspiring to all of those kiddos and to the parents/coaches as well. I know I enjoyed every minute of the trainings and felt accomplished after each session, especially seeing how quickly they were progressing. Knowing that we will not be behind other clubs but in fact ahead of the majority gives me a bit of comfort looking forward to the next season.
With that being said, we do not know what tryouts and season 2021 will bring but I feel we will be able to prepare for whatever is thrown at us as a club. We know the direction we are heading with our development and pathways so I will periodically be posting resources that will give the kids something to work on for our tryouts that are core pillars to our philosophies.
To our coaches, I will be sending out expressions of interest for those that would be interested in coaching for the upcoming season. To those that decide to step away, I can’t thank you enough for your efforts this season and putting in the time with our kiddos. The club is absolutely a better place for you all and we would not be where we are today without volunteers just like you.
Team managers, hopefully you already know how I feel about you all. The amount of work you do behind the scenes and the work you do keeping us all in order is a huge task and you never cease to do us proud.
If anyone has any questions I’m more than happy to try my best to answer them or point you in the right direction if I don’t know. I think it’s extremely important not to fill ourselves with unrealistic ideas as far as tryouts and next season resuming as if this year never happened. Obviously there will be some type of restrictions or different time constraints each club will have to follow so it would be extremely easy to sit back and try to think of any excuse why we won’t make a specific team or how unfair this lockdown is on us individually. Unfortunately these kiddos have shown me how quickly they will get back to where they were before and many of them have been training and working on skills over the previous lockdown. I know myself have a few kids already picked out from just the past few weeks by the amount of effort and growth they’ve shown skill wise and to us coaches that goes an extremely long way I can promise that.
Anyways, sorry for the long post but felt it was important to let you all know that the club is still operating behind the scenes and setting up structures so that once we get the go ahead, we will be fine once again. We’re a far too resilient bunch here at Chelsea to be knocked back through this adversity. I look forward to what’s to come for all of us in the future and excited to be back working with the kiddos once again.
